Occasionaly, we tend to have many hikes unavailable this time of year. This is due to a mixture of things that all contribute to us having to stop our Adventurers from booking. Here is a quick rundown.
Some tracks we have listed are seasonal, meaning they are not available in the colder months when snow is more prominent. As much as these hikes probably look amazing with a new, fresh blanket of snow, we must keep to the rules and safety requirements.
Currently in review with DOC
DOC, the New Zealand Department of Conservation control most hikes and look after them on our behalf. As part of the privilege to use them, we must submit requests for every single hike we wish to run Bushman Tours on. These are called concessions.
To get a concession, we pay a fee plus a yearly rate for every visitor that goes out. We're also audited and provide our safety and incident plan. DOC review these in detail and offer authorisation to run our business on the tracks we apply for.
Occasionally, and due to the time of year, this can take a while and add to the wait for us. We do not and will not run trips without a concession or agreement with the landowners or Iwi first.
No Bushmen Available
The more obvious one is that our Bushmen & women are either booked up or have not set themselves as available for bookings in our system due to other commitments.
We totally rely upon and run off their schedule and even promote only the tracks they wish to do (we have little input here).
The appealing thing for our Bushmen & women is that they can do this in their own time and whenever they want. It will always be this way, but of course, this can mean many hikes are unavailable.
If you're really keen to get out on those hikes however, it's worth registering your interest or contacting us to confirm. We can contact the Bushman on your behalf and see if they'd be interested in going out. (Sometimes, a little nudge is al it takes).
Lastly, it may be as simple as the available dates, season and Bushmen available all contribute to the availability of our schedule. In the summer periods, our hikes will book out way in advance and result in nothing being available again. It's worth joining our waiting list and registers your interest.
We supply a first come first served waiting list once people register. Calculated in order of registration, we contact and offer everyone a chance to go on the hike.
